The two sides confirmed at the meeting in Tokyo that they will work together to resolve energy and security issues, Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya said.
“Sharing fundamental values, Japan and the UK will continue to cooperate to support and strengthen a free, fair and rules-based global economic order,” Iwaya said.
The ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation on reforming the World Trade Organization and supporting the transition to clean energy in developing countries.
The meeting comes as Trump's trade war becomes a reality. His administration has imposed 25% tariffs on many goods from Canada and Mexico, and on Tuesday doubled the additional tariff on Chinese imports to 20%.
