The United States has asked Denmark and other European countries if they can export chicken eggs to the U.S. market as Americans face soaring prices for the product, Reuters reports.

The corresponding request came from the US Department of Agriculture. The letter notes that the US sent official requests to egg-producing countries at the end of February asking for information on whether they could and were willing to export eggs to the US market.
“We are still waiting to receive further guidance from Washington on the next steps, but do you have an estimate of the number of eggs that could be shipped to the United States (assuming they meet all import requirements),” the Danish Egg Association said in a letter sent in early March.
The Danish Egg Association said it would look into the issue, but there is no surplus of eggs in Europe.
“There is a shortage of eggs all over the world because consumption is growing and many producers have been affected by bird flu,” the association added.
It should be noted that the request to Denmark came from the United States against the backdrop of President Donald Trump's threats to impose economic sanctions if Denmark does not transfer control of Greenland to the United States.
