Italy, within the framework of the new Pro.UKR project, which is being implemented with the support of AICS and CIHEAM, will provide Ukraine with more than 11 million euros for the development of irrigation infrastructure, support for cooperatives, provision of small farmers with equipment and the integration of Ukrainian agribusiness into the European market. This was reported by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitaliy Koval.

The Odessa region was chosen for the implementation of this project. In particular, the Berezovsky, Razdelnyansky and Odessa districts. Support will affect 16,200 (about 48 thousand people) small and medium-sized farms.
Also at a meeting with the Ambassador of Italy to Ukraine Carlo Formosa and the leadership of the Italian Development Cooperation Agencies (AICS) and CIHEAM, the creation of joint processing enterprises in Ukraine was discussed.
“Today, a ton of exports from Italy to us costs $2,670, while from Ukraine it costs $309. This clearly demonstrates the difference in the structure of trade: Ukraine mainly supplies raw materials, while Italy exports products with high added value,” Koval noted.
According to him, it is important for Ukraine to change this situation by developing general deep processing, creating more opportunities for Ukrainian producers and increasing the share of finished products in exports.
“We are also interested in their marketing experience in order to determine the correct positioning of Ukrainian products on EU markets,” Koval added.
