The main goal of this program is to create artificial intelligence tools for analyzing satellite images aimed at ensuring US national security. Through several phases of the SMART program, BlackSky has been actively developing new machine learning architectures. As a result, the Spectra platform was developed, capable of processing data from tens of millions of square kilometers.
What has been done so far?
Using artificial intelligence techniques, the Spectra platform analyzed archived images over the past 5 years and detected more than 2 million changes in 120 thousand different locations around the world. This exceeds the planned level of system performance by three times.
«For the SMART program, BlackSky developed a high-performance machine learning architecture (MLOps), originally designed for analyzing one million square kilometers», — explained BlackSky chief technologist Patrick O'Neill.
«Currently, this technology is successfully used in other information search and analysis programs, processing more than 30 million square kilometers monthly& #187;.
This technology has already attracted the attention of American intelligence agencies and will be used in many other projects in the near future . Thus, from a theoretical perspective, the development can help law enforcement agencies better fight crime.
