The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army, Dmitry Yarosh, expressed his opinion on the need to restore the nuclear arsenal in the country.
Yarosh reported this information on his Facebook, reports URA-Inform.
He emphasized that Ukrainians have the right to have a nuclear shield, which would ensure their security and survival as a nation. Noting that Ukraine already had nuclear weapons, Yarosh recalled that after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the country gave up its nuclear arsenal as part of the 1994 Budapest Memorandum.
Under the terms of the memorandum, Ukraine transferred its nuclear warheads to in exchange for guarantees of sovereignty and territorial integrity from Russia, the US and the UK.
However, Russia violated its obligations by occupying Crimea and launching a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Yarosh emphasized that in 2014, President Obama was unable to contain Putin's aggression due to his weakness, which prompted him to think about the possible defense of Ukraine.
“ I believe that Ukraine needs to have nuclear weapons. We have the right! Without him we will not survive as a nation,” — he said.
According to Yarosh, the presence of a nuclear arsenal in Ukraine would scare Russia away from aggression, since an attack on a country with such capabilities could lead to the death of large Russian cities.
Recall that the West can stop the war in Ukraine: the expert said that this could happen in the summer.
