The NBU is considering the possibility of pegging the hryvnia exchange rate to another currency.
The NBU reported this information, reports URA-Inform.
The National Bank is considering the possibility of pegging the hryvnia exchange rate to the euro instead of the dollar. Reason — growth in the share of foreign exchange transactions carried out in the country in euros.
They noted:
— for transactions involving the purchase of non-cash currency by clients, the share of transactions in euros came close to 50%;
— «Market participants already need to calculate the indicator of the reference value of the hryvnia/euro exchange rate on the interbank market as of 12 o'clock, which is now available only for the dollar».
«The continuation of this trend, taking into account Ukraine's European integration aspirations, may in the near future raise the issue of the advisability of switching from the dollar to the euro as the main exchange rate peg currency», — the message says.
At the same time, it is recognized that for now the currency structure of transactions on the foreign exchange market of Ukraine confirms the status of the dollar “as the main exchange rate-setting currency.”
