Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic explained what he meant when he spoke about «difficult times» for the country. In particular, he spoke about several challenges awaiting the country in the near future.
This information was reported by the Balkan Observer, URA-Inform reports.
According to the Serbian leader, the first challenge is the admission of Kosovo to the Council of Europe. A final decision on this issue is expected to be made on May 11. Thus, Vucic spoke about discrimination and repression of Serbs in Kosovo and Pristina’s failure to fulfill its obligations under previously agreed agreements.
The Serbian president also criticized those who in the international arena and in the region support Kosovo’s accession to the Council of Europe and said that Serbia's reaction to the possible admission of Kosovo to the Council of Europe will be powerful and responsible.
«We will continue to discuss, I am ready to listen to the opinion of the Assembly (parliament – ed.) and the government. We will prepare and wait,” Vucic said.
At the same time, according to Vucic, the second challenge for Serbia is the adoption at the UN General Assembly of a resolution recognizing the massacre of Bosnians in Srebrenica in 1995 with the upcoming genocide in April.
The Serbian leader noted that although the document will not have binding force, it may raise the question of the legality of the existence of the Republika Srpska, which was formed on the foundation of genocide.
«Western states want to put us in a difficult position. The collective West will be against us, against Serbia plus a significant number of Muslim countries… We are small, all these forces are against us, but we will fight», — Vucic emphasized.
In addition, the president added that «pressure on the Serbian people» occurs for three main reasons:
— military neutrality of Serbia;
— Serbia's position on the war in Ukraine. In particular, the country condemns an attack on a sovereign country, but does not join sanctions against Russia;
— Western countries are under great pressure due to the advance of Russian troops.
In addition, Vučić believes that possible future political messages from Moscow, based on what is often called the «Kosovo precedent», may also be the reason for «pressure on the Serbian people».
