During a briefing, US State Department Deputy Speaker Vedant Patel said that back in February he had quietly ordered his national security team to send ATACMS to Ukraine for use on its sovereign territory.

He noted that the provision of long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine in March was secret at the request of the Ukrainian side. At the same time, Kyiv was given a condition to use these weapons on the territory of Ukraine.
“The transfer has begun as part of the aid package that we announced on March 12, and those missiles hit Ukraine that month. We did not announce this immediately to preserve operational security for Ukraine at its request. I can confirm that the United States provided Ukraine with long-range ATACMS missiles under direct orders from the President «, — said Vedant Patel.
He added that the United States reserves the right for Ukraine to talk about the use of missiles and how the Ukrainian Armed Forces will use these weapons in their operations.
