The process of increasing cholesterol levels in the body can develop asymptomatically for a long time, which is why it is often called the “silent killer.”< /p>
This information was reported by Ua-novosti, reports URA-Inform.
Doctors noted that a certain amount of cholesterol is necessary for the body to carry out a number of functions and absorb certain nutrients (for example, fat-soluble vitamins).
But its excessive content means that atherosclerotic plaques form in the blood arteries and vessels, which disrupt normal blood flow and blood supply to organs, including strategically important ones – the brain and heart.
«Plaques formed by cholesterol deposits in the arteries can break down to form clots that can completely block blood circulation, causing a heart attack or stroke.», — doctors warn.
Surgeons representing the University of California at San Francisco listed a number of symptoms that can be used to determine high cholesterol levels:
— pain and spasms in places such as the buttocks, thighs, calves, feet, which intensify during movement and weaken, should be stopped;
— the pulse, which should be felt in the legs or feet, is weak and seems absent;
— various skin lesions on the legs do not heal for a long time;
— the color of the skin in different parts of the body may become pale or blue;
— one leg feels colder than the other;
— toenails lose their healthy appearance and grow very slowly;
— hair loss on the lower extremities;
— men experience erectile dysfunction (impotence).
Experts recommend consulting a doctor if these symptoms appear. They recommend that adults (40 years and older) know their cholesterol levels, regardless of health. A blood test can determine it with maximum accuracy.
Doctors remind that unhealthy habits contribute to an increase in cholesterol levels in the blood – primarily overeating, abuse of unhealthy foods and alcohol, inactivity and a permissive attitude towards excess weight.
We recall that it was previously reported that the product is an anti-cholesterol product: doctors told us what to add to the diet.
