As it turned out, the Hungarian state is considering the possibility of filing a lawsuit in connection with the threat to energy stability that arose due to the termination of oil transit of the Russian company «Lukoil» through the territory of Ukraine.
This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó, URA-Inform reports with reference to Magyar Nemzet.
The minister noted that without supplies of Russian oil, Hungary cannot will be able to provide the required amount of resource due to the lack of appropriate infrastructure.
«Ukraine’s actions threaten the energy security of both Hungary and Slovakia. This step is unacceptable for a country seeking membership in the European Union. With one decision, it risks disrupting oil supplies to two EU member states,» – Szijjarto emphasized.
According to him, the termination of oil transit by the Ukrainian side is a clear violation of the terms of the Association Agreement with the EU.
In this regard, the affected party can initiate a process consultations during which the European Commission is obliged to protect the interests of a Member State. If it is not possible to reach a compromise with Ukraine, an arbitration court is possible, which can be held within 40 days.
If a solution is not found, the European Union may refuse to fulfill its obligations under the Association Agreement, added Szijjártó.
