RF focused on a record number of strategic bombers at the Olenya airbase.
This information was reported by TSN, URA-Inform reports.
According to the OSINT community Tracking, there are currently 14 Tu-95MS and 13 Tu-22M3 at the base, which makes up 27 aircraft in total. Analysts believe that this may indicate that Russia is preparing for a large-scale attack on Ukraine.
It is reported that at least six Tu-95MS were prepared and changed their location from July 14 to 18, in the process of loading Kh-101 missiles. It is known that the aircraft were transferred to Olenya from three Russian air bases: Olenya, Engels-2 and Ukrainka.
“Fourteen Tu-95MS at this airbase is a record number, usually there are 10-12. With the change in missile strike tactics, it is difficult to say when the aircraft will carry out a combat sortie, however, at least six Tu-95MS are ready for use,” reports the Tracking Telegram channel.
Military expert Oleg Zhdanov notes that it is impossible to accurately determine the degree of readiness of the Russian army for a new missile attack and the number of aircraft that may be involved.
“I think that they do not cover everything from a technical point of view – the planes are old, Soviet, they have a fairly large service life and need maintenance and repair. And they simply do not pull the full ammunition load. Perhaps, for such a more or less average value, we can take the golden mean. Let's say four missiles per plane, which has not happened for a long time. There are fourteen Tu-95MS planes. Multiply by four. This is 64 missiles that can theoretically take off,” the military expert said.
He suggests that the Russian army may target infrastructure facilities in Ukraine and stresses the importance of being prepared for the fact that any air raid alarm could be real and have critical consequences.
“It will all depend on what goal they set — military or political. Here, too, we cannot guess what Putin has in mind. I think the next attack could be on infrastructure facilities. Knowing the Russians, they can target the energy infrastructure,” says the military expert.
