Occupation forces The Russian Federation has achieved its long-standing tactical goal – it has reached the O-0532 highway near Ugledar in the Donetsk region in order to cut off the Ukrainian land line of communication connecting Ugledar and Konstantinovka.
This information was reported by ISW, URA-Inform reports.
Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) emphasize that the Russian army has managed to reach this O-0532 route, but this will not bring any particular successes for the occupiers.
“Russian positions along the highway likely do not foreshadow tactically significant or more immediate Russian gains in the area. Geolocated footage released on August 1 shows that Russian forces recently approached and captured a section of highway O-0532 southwest of Konstantinovka,” the report said.
ISW notes that Russian sources have long considered the closure of the highway and the disruption of Ukrainian land lines of communication (GLOCs) in Vuhledar to be the main tactical objective southwest of Donetsk, ostensibly to force the invaders to withdraw from their positions in and around Vuhledar.
The report also notes that Russian forces have recently stepped up their offensive operations southwest of Donetsk, conducting several costly mechanized assaults in the area.
“The Russian advance toward the Vuhledar-Konstantinovka highway is likely a result of this increased offensive effort, but Russian gains southwest of Donetsk continue to be incremental. Ukrainian forces have other GLOCs leading to Vuhledar, and the closure of the O-0532 highway does not significantly impair Ukraine's ability to hold and supply positions in the Vuhledar area,” ISW noted.
