On Sunday, 4 August, a state of emergency was declared in Russian Buryatia.

As reported to the Russian media, the cause was a large-scale flood. Two parts of the federal highway “Ulan-Ude – Chita” were in the flood zone, one section of the road was completely washed away. Traffic was stopped for an indefinite period.
On three more bridges across rivers, the bridges and approaches to them were washed away. We are talking about the bridges across the Tugnui, Sukhara and Khonkholoika rivers. Russian propaganda information resources reported, citing the regional prosecutor's office, that more than 100 local residents have already been evacuated.
“Today, right now, the water level continues to rise, the flood situation continues to worsen, the population is currently being evacuated, temporary accommodation points have already been prepared,” said the head of the region, Aleksey Tsydenov.
He clarified , that the villages of Khonkholoy, Bom and the federal highway are primarily at risk of flooding due to the broken dam. If the water continues to flow, it may reach populated areas along the Tygnuika River.
