Detained in the USA Pakistani suspected of having ties to Iran and accused of attempting to organize the murder of American politicians.
This information was reported by Bloomberg, URA-Inform reports.
It is noted that among the potential targets , as it turned out, included former President Donald Trump. Investigators allege that Asif Merchant, 46, hatched a plot to kill an unknown politician or government officials in the United States.
According to the indictment, Merchant, who lived for some time in Iran, returned to the United States from Pakistan in April and tried to establish contact with a person he believed could help him implement the plan.
Donald Trump was considered one of the possible targets of the assassination attempt. However, there is currently no evidence that his plan was linked to the recent assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, the sources said.
Pakistan's Foreign Ministry said it was in contact with U.S. officials and awaiting further clarification on the case. Iran's mission to the UN said it had not received any information from the United States on the matter.
The judge ordered Merchant to be held without bail, saying he represented a “serious threat» to the US and there is a risk of his escape.
Recall that it was previously reported that Trump will give a big interview to Elon Musk: the date has been announced.
