Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska, in his interview with the Japanese publication Nikkei Asia, spoke in favor of a ceasefire in Ukraine.
This information was reported by Nikkei Asia, as reported by URA-Inform.
One of Russia's top businessmen, who has been sanctioned by the United States over his alleged ties to the Russian government, has called the war “crazy” and criticized Russia's massive military spending, which has cost Moscow $211 billion in two years of war.
“If you want to stop the war, you first have to stop the fire,” Deripaska said, calling for an “immediate, unconditional ceasefire” in Ukraine.
Deripaska stressed the need for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire as a first step to ending the conflict. Although Nikkei Asia calls Deripaska an “oligarch close to Putin,” the businessman maintains that his relationship with the Kremlin remains unchanged and he tries to avoid politics.
“They (the Kremlin) don't touch me, and we (businessmen) don't engage in politics,” the publication quotes the businessman as saying.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time Deripaska has spoken out against the war. Back in 2022, he called it “madness” and called for it to be ended. After that, according to the Financial Times, Russian courts seized his assets worth a billion dollars for criticizing the war. Deripaska also said that destroying Ukraine would be a colossal mistake.
In 2023, he again called for an end to the war, believing that neither side would be able to achieve its goals.
Recall that it was previously reported how Budanov sees victory in the war: the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense explained his position.
