Beer is enough widespread alcohol throughout the world.
This information was reported by Ua-novosti, reports “URA-Inform”.
It is known that its consumption can be harmful to health. However, recent research by scientists has proven the opposite.
In particular, a study involving 25,000 people showed that moderate beer consumption can have a protective effect against age-related deterioration of brain function and the development of dementia.
Australian scientists from the University of New South Wales analyzed the drinking habits of study participants, all of whom were over 60 years old, and studied their impact on the risk of developing dementia.
As a result, it turned out that those who drank up to a liter of beer daily were one third less likely to develop dementia than non-drinkers.
It is noted that the study was based on data collected over 40 years of observation. At the beginning of the study, the participants showed no signs of a predisposition to dementia, but by the end of the project, more than 2,000 people had received such a diagnosis.
Scientists have found that people who consume alcohol in moderation are better protected from dementia than those who completely abstain from alcohol.
During the analysis, the scientists found that drinking up to 40 grams of ethanol per day (which is equivalent to two half-liter mugs of beer or two standard glasses of wine) is associated with a lower risk of developing dementia compared to complete abstinence from alcohol.
However, they noted that the exact reasons for this connection require further study.
