It is reported that they will be useful both in defense and in attack.
This information was reported by Defense Express, as reported by URA-Inform.
The new package of American aid, along with other funds, will include included 155mm RAAM shells, designed for remote mining. This is exactly what the Defence Forces urgently need right now.
The exact number of shells provided is not being disclosed for security reasons, but analysts suggest that it could be several thousands of units, but hardly more than 10 thousand.
These shells are an important element of the weapon, since each of them contains nine anti-tank mines, which can be remotely placed at a distance of up to 17.6 km. This is especially relevant in conditions where it is necessary to quickly mine enemy approach routes, for example, in the Kursk region.
In addition, RAAM shells are also useful in conditions of positional confrontation, as they allow for the rapid mining of possible enemy attack routes.
However, it is worth considering that the mines used in these shells are equipped with a built-in self-destruction timer. Depending on the model, the mines self-destruct after 4 or 48 hours, which makes it impossible to use them to create a long-term defense.
Recall that earlier it was reported that the US announced a new aid package for Ukraine: what will it include?
