Acceptance The adoption of the Rome Statute by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine was a historic moment that opened up new horizons for the country in the international legal arena.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Vladimir Martynenko, a doctor of philosophy in law and former adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, who gave an interview to RBC-Ukraine.
According to Martynenko, this step provides Ukraine with the opportunity to participate in the work of the International Criminal Court, giving it a new role and rights in global justice.
Martynenko also noted that ratification of the Rome Statute takes Ukraine to a new level of participation in investigations of crimes considered by the ICC. Now Ukraine is becoming not just a third-party observer, but a full-fledged participant in trials related to war crimes committed by Russia.
The Rome Statute opens up the opportunity for Ukraine not only to provide evidence, but also to actively participate in the process of its consideration, which is critically important for bringing the perpetrators to justice, Martynenko emphasized.
In addition, he noted that ratification provides Ukraine with additional legal instruments for participating in investigations of criminal cases not related to war crimes. This creates new legal prospects and strengthens Ukraine's position in the international community.
However, according to Martynenko, in order to fully realize these opportunities, the country will have to adapt its legislation in accordance with the requirements set out in the Rome Statute. This will allow it to make the most effective use of all the advantages that are opening up for Ukraine thanks to the ratification of this important document.
Against the backdrop of the adoption of such a document, Russian troops in one of the directions also began to behave strangely.
