Former US President Donald Trump declined CNN's offer to take part in another debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump's position was reported by URA-Inform, citing The Hill.
Trump stated, that the time for such events had already passed. On September 21, at a campaign event in North Carolina, he explained his decision, noting that “the votes have already been cast” and mentioned that Harris was seriously inferior in popularity. Trump emphasized that Harris had previously refused to hold debates on Fox, and only now, when she is allegedly “losing badly,” has she shown interest in debating on CNN.
According to Trump, he would gladly take part in the debates if it had been offered earlier. However, in his opinion, it is now too late to change anything. Kamala Harris, for her part, agreed to debate on CNN on October 23 and publicly challenged her Republican opponent to do the same, to no avail.
The situation underscores the tension in the race, where candidates are trying to secure support from voters in the final stages of the campaign. Declining the debate invitation adds a new dynamic to Trump's strategy, which focuses on direct contact with his base rather than traditional public debate formats.
