In May 2024, the Verkhovna Rada adopted updated bill No. 10449, which makes significant adjustments to the Law of Ukraine “On Preparation for Mobilization and Mobilization”.
This was reported by “URA-Inform” with reference to “UNIAN”.
It is noted that the above-mentioned innovations expand the categories of citizens subject to conscription, which caused a wide resonance in society. Experts analyze how this will affect mobilization activities in October 2024.
Now mobilization applies to all men who are required to serve in the military, aged 25 to 60 years, if they:
- are found fit for service based on the results of a medical commission (VVK);
- were previously “limitedly fit”, but must undergo a medical commission again before February 4, 2025;
- have a military specialty that is in short supply.
These changes made the procedure more stringent, but also provided for certain exceptions for different categories of citizens.
Moreover, a directive of the Ground Forces of Ukraine concerning men over 50 years of age has recently appeared. This document is classified and is not available to the general public.
Nevertheless, it is known that the directive prohibits the conscription of men over 50 years of age, with the exception of those who have rare military specialties. In other cases, joining the ranks of the Armed Forces is only possible on a voluntary basis.
Bill No. 11379-d, adopted in September 2024, made important adjustments to mobilization activities.
Thus, now men under 25 years of age with the status of “limited fitness” are not subject to conscription. This ban was supported by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, and its official approval is expected in the near future.
It is important to note that this ban only applies to those men under 25 whose status of “limited fitness” was canceled in April 2024.
Against this background, the TCC has already managed to contact those who have a deferment, and even made a corresponding appeal.
