Despite forced withdrawal from Ugledar, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to hold the defense of Donetsk region.
This was reported by “URA-Inform” with reference to 24tv.ua.
Reserve Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and military expert Petro Chernik noted that the situation remains difficult, but this event will not bring critical consequences. Over time, it will be much more difficult for the occupiers to conduct attacks on the front.
Chernik emphasized that the loss of Ugledar will not lead to the collapse of the front. Chernik recalled similar situations, such as the battles for Lisichansk, Severodonetsk, Bakhmut and Avdiivka, which the enemy captured, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine continued their fight. Despite the losses, strategically important heights on the battlefield remain with Ukraine. Chernik expressed confidence that with each passing hour and day the situation will develop in favor of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
«The enemy was pressing, is pressing and will continue to press. We know its strategic goal – to reach the administrative borders of the Donetsk region at any cost… We need to hold out for about a month. Then, the soil will definitely get soggy, because serious precipitation is expected soon. Neither Russian heavy equipment nor soldiers will be able to move,” Chernik believes.
The expert noted that society should avoid excessively negative sentiments, since significant and abrupt changes for the worse will not occur. He also recalled that there were many difficult moments in the history of Ukraine, but the fight against the enemy did not stop.
«One of the main rules of war: battles can be lost, but the war must be won,— Chernik added.
