Russian President Vladimir Putin sent to the State The Duma has a bill on ratification of the treaty on a comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and North Korea.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to the Ukrainian Telegram news service.
It is noted that the above-mentioned The move marks another deepening of bilateral relations, underscoring the course towards rapprochement between Moscow and Pyongyang in the context of the changing geopolitical situation.
Signing of the agreement: results of the June visit
The foundations of the partnership were laid in June 2024, when Putin visited Pyongyang on an official visit. The agreement signed during the meeting secured the intentions of both countries to expand cooperation in the areas of politics, security and economics. North Korea confirmed its readiness to support Russia in international initiatives, as well as to increase bilateral supplies, including in the defense and energy sectors.
The visit was the first such event in decades, marking Russia's turn towards states under sanctions pressure.
What does the strategic partnership agreement include?
The details of the agreement cover several key areas:
- military-technical cooperation. Moscow and Pyongyang are considering the possibility of exchanging technology and support within the framework of defense projects;
- economic and infrastructure projects. It is envisaged to develop trade, including the supply of raw materials and products, as well as joint infrastructure initiatives;
- political coordination. The parties plan to coordinate their positions in international organizations, including the UN and other multilateral formats;
- cultural and humanitarian exchange to enhance mutual understanding between the peoples of Russia and the DPRK.
