Desks for work are gaining popularity around the world standing, which are supposed to help people with sedentary jobs.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to The Guardian.
During the study, the scientists analyzed data from more than 80 thousand adults in the UK who did not have heart disease. People wore devices on their wrists to track their movements. It found that standing for long periods of time – more than two hours a day – could increase the risk of developing varicose veins and deep vein thrombosis.
The scientists added that every additional half hour that a person spends on their feet increases the risk of developing circulatory diseases by 11%. The researchers also found no evidence that standing, which replaces a sedentary lifestyle, reduces the risk of heart disease such as stroke, heart failure and coronary heart disease.
However, scientists advise people , who have sedentary jobs, to schedule physical activity for the free part of the day. Study co-author Emmanuel Stamatakis notes that people should stretch, go for a walk, walk to meetings, use the stairs, take regular breaks when driving long distances, or use their lunch break, to get up from the table and move around a bit.
