The upcoming US elections are causing serious concern among Ukrainian and European leaders.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Bloomberg.
The political prospects for supporting Ukraine depend on the outcome of the race, and, according to the aforementioned agency, the possible results are worrying. A victory by Donald Trump or Kamala Harris could significantly change the format and volume of aid, which could affect Ukraine's position in the international arena and on the front line.
However, Trump’s return to the White House could pose a significant test for Ukraine. According to information from Western officials cited by Bloomberg, a Trump victory would threaten a “painful resolution” of the conflict, implying potential territorial concessions.
This would create a difficult diplomatic dilemma for Kyiv, as any compromise on territory would be unacceptable to a significant part of Ukrainian society. In addition, a reduction in military and financial aid in the event of a Trump victory would jeopardize the continuation of effective counteraction to Russian aggression.
A Kamala Harris victory scenario, despite her public promises to continue supporting Kyiv, would also not guarantee a smooth path.
The US Congress is showing increasing sentiment to cut international aid, and the incoming administration will face bipartisan resistance, especially amid economic difficulties at home.
Meanwhile, Medvedev has once again begun to shower the Ukrainian state with threats amid military action.
