The European Commission, according to the Ministry of Culture, noted the priority of protecting journalistic activity in Ukraine.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine.
The report, as the Ministry notes, contains important amendments to the order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces No. 73, which allows Ukrainian and foreign experts to promptly cover the situation at the front. The European Commission also positively assessed the steps of the Ukrainian government aimed at creating appropriate conditions for the work of correspondents located near the contact line.
“We are grateful to the European Commission for the fact that the report defines the importance of the law signed in May 2024 by the President of Ukraine, which significantly increased the transparency of local self-government through the regular publication of transcripts and broadcasts of meetings of local councils and their standing committees,” said the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications Mykola Tochytskyi.
The Ministry of Culture noted that the European Commission also positively assessed the roadmap for supporting the restoration of a transparent and independent post-war media space after the end of martial law.
«We have already begun the path of change: step by step, we ensure access of every citizen to public information and actively attract the resources of international partners to support the restoration of Ukrainian media. The recommendations of the European Commission on the “United News” marathon have also been taken into account. The state plans to stop supporting the marathon after the end of martial law, focusing on the sustainable development of media infrastructure. After all, our goal is to create a space for truth and freedom of speech, and this work continues daily», — added Tochitsky.
