Following the recent night attacks by Shahed drones on the capital, monitoring channels have noticed that these drones first head towards Zhitomir, but then turn around and try to attack Kyiv.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Expert.
Social media users suggest that this may be related to testing new routes for a powerful attack on the capital. Military experts, in turn, note that such a tactic of changing the trajectory may be an attempt by the occupiers to force the Armed Forces of Ukraine to distribute air defense systems across different locations, thereby “spraying” them.
As for the probability of the main strike, experts suggest that it could be combined and massive. They also express the opinion that the Russian army could have chosen the tactic of a temporary pause, waiting for the cold weather and the heating season to begin in Ukraine.
Reserve Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Roman Svitan noted that the Russian army is looking for safe routes for the Shahed drones when approaching Kyiv.
“Such attacks by the Shaheds are an attempt to bypass the air defense, to approach the capital of Ukraine from a different azimuth. Before this, there were attempts to approach from the east, from the northeast, from the west, from the south, from the southwest, from the northeast. Now – from the side of Zhitomir. By and large – again unsuccessfully, because some of the Shaheds were destroyed,” he said.
Svitan also did not rule out the possibility of launching the so-called “star” – a strategy that allows attacks from several directions simultaneously.
“What else could it be – they can use the so-called “star.” That is, to approach the city with “Shaheds” from all possible azimuths. For this, about 150 “Shaheds” can be used simultaneously. This can be a route planner,” Svitan summed up.
Also, earlier there was information that the Russian Federation attacked Kyiv with unknown UAVs: how they differ from “Shaheds” (video).
