US presidential elections again attract the Kremlin's attention, as a potential victory for Donald Trump could change military and diplomatic strategies in Eastern Europe.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to The Washington Post.
And while candidate Trump has repeatedly criticized American spending on aid to Ukraine, a possible ceasefire plan modeled on his may not be as beneficial to Russia as it first appears.
A senior Russian official, who remained anonymous, said, that the “American elections will not change the situation” and relations between the two countries remain in a deadlock, in which “all sides, including Putin, have become hostages.”
Experts emphasize that for Putin would rather have full control over Ukraine than temporarily hold on to territories. But such a scenario is facing resistance even among former Trump advisers, including Fred Fleitz and Keith Kellogg, who have proposed a temporary cease-fire that would cement the status quo.
That raises concerns that a potential Trump victory could lead to a worsening of relations between The US and Russia, since the implementation of any truce will require Moscow to take steps it is not ready for.
Meanwhile, Medvedev made a veiled threat to Trump: what fate did he predict for him?
