The police told how not to fall into the trap of thieves.
This was reported by “URA-Inform” with reference to the press service of the Sumy region police.
The police reported that fraudsters have become more active in the Sumy region. According to them, in the last 24 hours alone, four people in the Sumy region have fallen victim to fraudsters. Thus, a resident of the Sumy region lost 25,000 UAH by paying an advance payment for a car that was “sold” on a popular classifieds website.
“After the funds were transferred, the criminal disappeared, and the promised car was never delivered. A similar incident occurred with a resident of the Konotop district,” the Sumy region police said in a statement.
Another victim found an ad for financial assistance on social networks. After clicking on the link, he entered his card details on a third-party website, as a result of which money disappeared from his account. The woman also received a call from an alleged bank representative who warned her that her card was blocked. Following the instructions, she lost the funds.
The police noted several important rules on how to protect yourself from scammers:
— Avoid prepayments, especially when shopping online;
— Always try to meet the seller in person;
— Check the seller's account, because new profiles or profiles without reviews may be suspicious;
— Do not enter personal information or card details on suspicious sites;
— Beware of “free help” ads from unknown sources.
— Remember that bank employees will not ask for personal information or transactions over the phone.
Recall that earlier it was reported that fraudsters have developed a new type of fraud in instant messengers: the scheme is gaining popularity.
