Archaeologists for the first time looked inside the ancient Egyptian sarcophagus of Shenet-aa and revealed the secrets of the famous Egyptian mummy, placed in a coffin without a hole three thousand years ago.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to DailyMail.
< p>Previously, scientists had long tried to find an opening through which the body could have been placed, but found only a small gap at the mummy's feet, which was not large enough for this. With the help of CT scanning, researchers were finally able to examine the internal structure of the sarcophagus.
The scans showed that Shenet-aa's sarcophagus was assembled differently: the sarcophagus was first created, then softened with water so that it could bend slightly. After the body was placed inside, the sarcophagus was laced along its entire length at the back. The unusual design of the sarcophagus has given scientists a more complete picture of embalming during Egypt's 22nd Dynasty, when Shenet-aa, a high-status woman, lived.
The study also revealed that Shenet-aa's body was carefully wrapped in expensive linen and enclosed in painted cardboard resembling papier-mâché. The mummy's organs were placed in separate bags, protected by wax statues of the sons of Horus, which were then returned to the body. Scientists also noticed that several of Shenet-aa's teeth were missing, and those that remained were badly worn, and her eyes are replaced with artificial ones to preserve her appearance.
It will also be interesting to know that the scientist named the place where the soul lives: a theory has been put forward about the sources of human consciousness.
