In northern Europe, in Norway, every a rare natural phenomenon occurs in the summer – the sun remains above the horizon for almost four months, without going beyond the sunset line.
This is reported by “URA-Inform” with reference to 24tv.ua.
This a unique event called the “Midnight Sun”. In particular, on the Svalbard archipelago and in other northern regions of the country, residents enjoy uninterrupted daylight hours from April 20 to August 22. During this period, there is no night: the sun shines around the clock, barely touching the horizon .
This phenomenon is explained by the axial tilt of the Earth, due to which the North Pole remains turned towards the Sun during the summer months. As a result, in areas beyond the Arctic Circle, daylight is preserved for a long time, and darkness is completely absent.
'Midnight Sun' is a special experience for locals and tourists. Here the usual division between day and night disappears, and you can enjoy the endless bright sky. The best places to observe this amazing phenomenon are on Spitsbergen, the Lofoten Islands, and in the cities of Nordkapp, Tromsø and Bode.
