Ukraine may direct its next strike with Western long-range missiles at the Rostov region of the Russian Federation. There are a number of facilities of interest to the Defense Forces there.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to The Wall Street Journal.
According to the publication, Russian airfields, ammunition depots and training grounds can no longer be safe after Western partners granted Kyiv permission to strike targets on Russian territory. Hundreds of targets are currently located within the range of missiles that are more powerful than the long-range UAVs used by the Ukrainian army.
The Institute for the Study of War has identified about 200 military targets within range of the ATACMS and Storm Shadow long-range missiles. Analyst George Barros notes that this is only a fraction of the targets. According to the ISW representative, Kyiv can use the intelligence information and attack headquarters and other Russian facilities that change location.
“The elimination of a brigade or division headquarters could create chaos for hundreds of Russian troops for days,” Barros said.
The WSJ believes that one of the largest concentrations of targets is located in the Rostov region. There are at least four airports there that are within range of long-range missiles, although some of them are civilian.
“Rostov is the landing point for many troops who are transported by large military aircraft, equipped, loaded onto buses and driven to occupied eastern Ukraine. A blow to the region could be devastating and scatter a key staging area for Russian troops,” — the WSJ statement says.
The publication notes that it has not yet been possible to establish whether the Americans have introduced restrictions on the types of targets or areas that Kyiv can choose for its attacks.
Recall that it was previously reported that it became known how many DPRK soldiers and Russian officers died after the Storm Shadow strike on Maryino.
