In December, the head of the Main Directorate Ukrainian intelligence chief Kirill Budanov may be dismissed, NV reports, citing sources in the security and defense sector.
URA-Inform reports this, citing Nv.ua.
According to the publication, attempts to remove him are expected to intensify during this period. The most active lobbyists for Budanov's resignation are the head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak and the deputy head of the Security Service of Ukraine Oleksandr Poklad. Sources claim that Poklad is planned to be appointed to the post of head of the Main Intelligence Directorate.
< p>One of the publication's interlocutors noted that some of Budanov's actions and statements allegedly caused harm to Ukraine. Support for Tuareg rebels in Africa and controversial decisions in the area of defense procurement are mentioned as examples.
At the same time, Budanov's own future after a possible resignation remains uncertain. According to sources, he is not interested in the post of ambassador or head of the SBU, contrary to rumors. The Security Service of Ukraine denied the information about the possible appointment of Poklad as head of the GUR.
It is worth noting that reports about the change of the department's leadership and tensions in relations between Budanov and Yermak have been circulating for several months. Sources associate this with attempts to limit the influence of the GUR and a personal conflict between the two figures.
