Neuroscientists have identified a subtle feature that may indicate psychopathic tendencies in humans.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to the Daily Star.
As part of research conducted with the participation of more than 200 volunteers in the UK, scientists found that people with psychopathic traits have a harder time noticing small details, but are better at perceiving the big picture.
In real life, such as in public places, this may mean that they have a harder time concentrating and are more easily distracted. For the experiment, volunteers were asked to look at large letters made up of many small letters and to say which ones they noticed first. One example was the letter “T” made up of small “E”.
The research, conducted by scientists from the Australian National University in Canberra, focused on three main traits of psychopaths – antisocial behavior, egocentrism and callousness. People who scored high on antisocial behavior had problems concentrating. They noticed the capital letter first, which means they were better at seeing the big picture.
This finding supports the hypothesis that such psychopathy traits are associated with poorer concentration in everyday life. Currently, scientists are investigating whether it is possible to reduce manifestations of antisocial behavior in people with psychopathic tendencies using attention training.
Recall that earlier it was reported where else besides the brain memories are “stored”: scientists surprised with the results of the study.
