Doctor of Economic Sciences, Head of the Department of Living Standards Research at the Institute of Demography and Social Research Lyudmila Cherenko stated that in our country, in just two years of full-scale war, poverty has almost doubled.
“Poverty has noticeably increased in the northern regions – Chernihiv, Sumy. In regions such as Kyiv, Kharkov, Dnepr – the poverty level there has not grown so significantly,” the expert noted.
At the same time, Cherenko reported that Kyiv, Zakarpattia and Chernivtsi Oblast have the lowest poverty rates.
It is worth noting that the World Bank had previously reported that due to the full-scale Russian invasion, the number of Ukrainians living below the poverty line has increased by 1.8 million compared to 2020.
