Scientists from Baylor College of Medicine found that regular consumption of this drink helps improve intestinal health by increasing the number of anti-inflammatory bacteria.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Ua-novosti.
Scientists have concluded that coffee makes the intestines healthier and ultimately leads to a reduced risk of a number of diseases.
The study and its results
At the annual meeting of the American College of Gastroenterology, data from a study involving 34 volunteers were presented. As part of the work, specialists conducted a screening colonoscopy and obtained 97 biopsies of the colon mucosa from different areas. The test results were compared with the participants' questionnaires about their diet.
It turned out that people who consumed coffee in significant quantities (more than 82.9 mg per day) had more beneficial bacteria in their gut, such as Faecalibacterium and Roseburia, and fewer potentially harmful microorganisms, such as Erysipelatoclostridium.
Health Benefits
According to the researchers, this ratio of bacteria contributes to a healthy gut microbiome. This, in turn, strengthens the immune system and provides protection against a number of serious diseases.
“This composition and structure of the gut microbiota plays an important role in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and liver disease,” — the authors of the work reported.
Thus, coffee can become not only a source of energy, but also an important element for maintaining the health of the intestines and the body as a whole.
It will also be useful to learn about a simple drink for the heart and blood vessels: doctors said that you need to drink it more often.
