New data from a survey conducted by the Rzeczpospolita publication show a significant decrease in the level of positive attitudes of Ukrainians towards Poles.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to the above-mentioned source.
It is noted that if in 2022 83% of respondents expressed positive emotions, then in 2024 this figure dropped to 41%. These figures are of concern to experts who emphasize the need to strengthen bilateral relations.
Experts say the main reason for this change is the evolution of Ukrainians' perception of Polish aid, part of which began to be perceived as a geopolitical interest.
In particular, 20% of respondents believe that Poland is helping Ukraine because of territorial claims, which is three times more than in 2022. The increase in tensions is also associated with isolated cases of political statements and misunderstandings at the local government level.
The persistently high percentage of neutral attitudes (53%) indicates the need to strengthen diplomatic and cultural ties between the peoples to prevent further cooling of relations.
Experts suggest implementing joint projects aimed at strengthening friendship, such as educational exchanges, cultural events and joint economic initiatives. These measures can help restore trust and overcome current challenges.
At the same time, the NYT believes that the war is approaching its final phase.
