The US State Department strongly recommended that citizens of the country who are in Belarus leave the country as soon as possible.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to the recommendations of the US State Department.
It is noted that the threat to American citizens is due to the arbitrary application of local laws by the Belarusian authorities, the risk of detention, as well as the support of the Alexander Lukashenko regime for Russian aggression against Ukraine.
“U.S. citizens are advised to avoid public demonstrations as Belarusian authorities have used force to disperse peaceful protesters. Bystanders, including foreign nationals, may face possible arrest or detention,” the statement reads.
The U.S. Department of State emphasized that due to the closure of the U.S. Embassy in Minsk on February 28, 2022, consular services for U.S. citizens in Belarus are unavailable. Therefore, if detained, dual citizens may be denied consular assistance.
It was also reported that the Belarusian government may close border crossings with Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Ukraine without warning. Such actions increase the risk for foreigners who may be isolated in the country.
According to the State Department, the Security Services of Belarus monitor the electronic communications of citizens in the country. There have been cases of foreigners being detained for information on their devices, even information created outside of Belarus.
It has also become known that large-scale protests have begun in Egypt: the media reports that the situation is heating up (photo).
