In Ukraine, the share of citizens who are ready to bear the burden of war as long as necessary.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to the Kiev International Institute of Sociology.
In October last year, this figure was 63%, and in December it fell to 57%. This became known from a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, during which 985 respondents aged 18 and over were interviewed.
It is worth adding that in May 2022, 71% of Ukrainians were ready to endure the burden of war for as long as necessary, and in December 2023, the share of such citizens increased to 73%.
It is noted that in the South and East of the country, the situation has even improved somewhat, and now in the South 57%, and in the East 51% answered that they are ready to endure as long as necessary. At the same time, at the beginning of October, it was, respectively, 50% and 38%.
The authors of the study note that the number of those who find it “difficult to say” how much longer they are willing to endure has increased from 12% to 18%, while the share of those who speak of a shorter period from several months to six months has changed insignificantly – 21% in December versus 18% at the beginning of October.
The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology noted that between October and December, what happened was not a decrease in the Ukrainians' margin of safety, but rather an increase in uncertainty among citizens. This reflects a combination of external factors, such as the US elections and domestic circumstances.
“The decrease in the share of those who are ready to endure military difficulties for as long as necessary is certainly an alarming trend that requires the attention of the authorities and society. Moreover, we see that the willingness to endure is not limited to socio-economic conditions, but in fact other factors are more significant and determine the population's margin of safety,” — commented on the results of the study by the executive director of KIIS Anton Grushetsky.
He added that, given the “negative forecasts” that were predicted for Ukraine over the past year, Ukrainians demonstrate high resilience and “quite a strong will” to continue fighting.
Recall that earlier it was reported that Putin could soon end the war in Ukraine: what signals is the Kremlin already sending.
