A new virus called HMPV has been on the rise in China, and experts are not ruling out that it could cause a new coronavirus-like outbreak.
A sudden outbreak of respiratory illnesses has been reported in China in recent days, which “reminds people of a similar outbreak during the coronavirus pandemic.”
Media outlets in Indonesia, India and Japan, which are neighbors of China, have warned their citizens and taken necessary precautions. However, according to media reports, official Beijing is downplaying the incidence of the disease, passing it off as an “annual phenomenon in winter.”
As international reports warned travelers to reconsider their travel plans to China, Beijing issued a press statement to allay concerns. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Friday that “respiratory infections usually peak in the winter season.”
“I assure you that the Chinese government cares about the health of citizens and foreigners visiting the country. It is safe to travel within China,” — she said.
When asked about overcrowded hospitals and reports of an outbreak of respiratory diseases, she noted that “the diseases seem to be less severe and are spreading on a smaller scale compared to the previous year.”
Recall that earlier it was reported about which diseases can be transmitted through cash: scientists surprised with the answer.
