Future advisor US President-elect Donald Trump's National Security Advisor Mike Walz said that the first step to ending the war in Ukraine should be a ceasefire.
URA-Inform reports this with reference to ABC News.
At the same time, he noted that this military confrontation could end diplomatically. Volz emphasized that a ceasefire is an important step that will help the parties move toward a negotiated solution.
“Well, we would like to see a ceasefire any minute, any day. I think that would be a positive, even incredibly positive, first step on both sides. And that would allow us to enter the framework of some type of negotiated solution,” he said.
According to him, a diplomatic solution to the conflict is inevitable, although the complete expulsion of Russian troops, in particular from Crimea, is considered unrealistic.
“Everyone knows that this has to end diplomatically somehow. I just don't think it's realistic to say that we're going to expel every Russian from every inch of Ukrainian soil, even from Crimea. President Trump has acknowledged that reality,” Volz emphasized.
He also noted the importance of preventing further escalation, which could have global consequences for the entire world.
“We're already seeing North Korea, we're seeing grumbling from South Korea. This can expand, this is what we must stop,” Donald Trump's adviser concluded.
At the same time, Trump made a new decision on Putin: it became known what could happen in the near future.
