US President-elect Donald Trump has instructed his aides to arrange a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the coming days.
This was reported by URA-Inform, citing CNN.
The sources say the main topic of the conversation will be preparations for a face-to-face meeting with the Russian leader in the coming months. Trump intends to discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine and implement a peace plan that he hopes to implement in the first months of his presidency.
Trump's national security team began working on preparing for the call with Putin several weeks ago. However, an exact date for the call has not yet been set. Once Trump officially takes office, detailed work will begin between U.S. and Russian officials to arrange the meeting.
«Trump and his team hope to quickly begin working on a settlement plan (in Ukraine – Ed.) that could be implemented within the first months of his presidency, including through direct conversations with Putin,» the publication writes.
