The South Korean company Samsung plans to release the first smartphone with three panels.

This was reported by “URA-Inform” with reference to 9to5Google.

The device will have a larger display and will fold twice. It is reported that the launch of the new “tri-folding » smartphone is expected in the third quarter of this year. The company plans to produce 200 thousand such devices per year.

The publication notes that Samsung is developing four foldable devices at once, including its first smartphone with three panels. At the same time, forecasts for the development of this market are not as positive as the Korean company would like. The publication noted that by releasing such strange devices, Samsung is taking a risk, although it has not been in the best financial position for the past few years.

9to5Google speculates that the company will release phones like the Galaxy Flip 7 and Galaxy Fold 7 this year, which will likely remove the dedicated slot for the S Pen stylus, meaning it will need to be charged separately. This was previously reported to be done to make the Fold 7 thinner.

The third device in the lineup could be the Galaxy Flip FE. This would be a low-cost phone with stripped-down specs, similar to how Samsung releases less powerful versions of its regular phones under the FE label.

Eventually, the fourth “triple-hinged” phone would have a larger display than the Galaxy Fold 7, thanks to the addition of a second hinge. When fully unfolded, its diagonal will be between 9.9 and 10 inches, which is significantly larger than the 7.6-inch display of the Galaxy Fold 6. Insiders suggest that this smartphone will have similar features to the Huawei Mate XT, which was released last year in September.
