Head of the Main Department Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kirill Budanov commented on the situation with the participation of North Korean troops on the front in the Kursk region of Russia. According to him, about eight thousand DPRK soldiers are still involved in the fighting, although their activity has noticeably decreased in recent days.
This was reported by URA-Inform, with reference to The War Zone.
Budanov noted that the claims of some media outlets about the complete withdrawal of North Korean troops from the front line are erroneous. He emphasized that, despite significant losses, DPRK units continue to remain in the combat zone.
“Reports that North Korean troops do not appear on the front lines for weeks are not true. We need to wait some time to understand whether this is a temporary decrease in activity or more long-term changes,” he said.
The decrease in the activity of North Korean troops is associated with the serious losses they suffered at the front. However, their presence in the Kursk region is confirmed by Ukrainian intelligence.
Earlier, The New York Times reported that the DPRK troops were allegedly withdrawn from the front lines due to heavy losses. However, the Ukrainian side does not confirm this information, pointing to a possible temporary redistribution of forces or a short-term decline in activity.
