Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov held his first meeting with the new head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth. The talks took place on February 12 in Brussels, where the regular meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format is taking place.
Umerov wrote about this on Facebook, URA-Inform reports.
The Ukrainian minister announced the meeting with his American counterpart on social networks, but did not disclose the details of the discussions.
“The first meeting with the new US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth,” Umerov briefly noted.
Meanwhile, Hegseth himself, who arrived in Brussels, stressed that NATO's role must become more active and not be limited to diplomatic statements.
“Our commitment is clear: NATO must be a stronger, more lethal force, not a diplomatic club,” the new US Secretary of Defense said.
This is the first time the Ramstein meeting is being chaired by Great Britain. The meeting is expected to discuss further arms deliveries to Ukraine and increased defense support from allies.
