Caries is not just a hole in the tooth, but a serious disease that can lead to dangerous complications. If enamel destruction is not treated in time, bacteria spread further, affecting not only the oral cavity, but also other body systems.

URA-Inform reports this.

Gum inflammation and tooth loss
Caries provokes inflammation of soft tissues – gingivitis and periodontitis. Over time, the gums weaken, teeth begin to wobble and may fall out.

Infections and abscesses
Without treatment, the infection penetrates the root of the tooth, causing pulpitis and periodontitis. In severe cases, a purulent abscess develops, which may require surgical intervention.

Heart disease
When bacteria from decayed teeth enter the bloodstream, they increase the risk of inflammation of the heart valves (endocarditis), which is especially dangerous for people with cardiovascular disease.

Gastrointestinal problems
Poor chewing of food due to diseased teeth leads to digestive problems, gastritis and peptic ulcers.

Headaches and chronic fatigue
Untreated caries can cause inflammation of the trigeminal nerve, leading to constant headaches, as well as decreased immunity and general weakness.

To avoid these complications, it is important to visit your dentist regularly, maintain good oral hygiene, and not delay treatment of even minor caries.
