Sometimes we don’t notice how the interlocutor loses interest in the conversation, but his body and answers can give us clear signals. Psychologists highlight several obvious signs of boredom that you should pay attention to in order to end the conversation in time.
URA-Inform reports this.
The first sign is monosyllabic answers, such as “uh-huh,” “cool,” or repeating the same phrase. If the interlocutor answers even more complex questions with such words, this is a clear signal that he is bored.
Another sign is when the interlocutor starts to demonstrate a monotonous facial expression, not changing it, regardless of the topic of conversation. In this case, you can try to change the topic and talk about something neutral, for example, the weather, sports or cinema. If after this the interlocutor still continues to be bored, then the problem is most likely in you, and not in the topic.
It is also worth paying attention to the behavior of the interlocutor. If he suddenly starts asking unexpected questions or interrupts, this may indicate that he is not interested and is trying to change the topic to freshen up the conversation.
If the person you're talking to isn't looking at you and is focused on their phone, it's a sure sign that the conversation has become too drawn out for them. This is especially noticeable if the person starts pretending to read messages, even though there are no notifications.
Finally, if the person you're talking to is slouching or adopting closed postures, such as crossing their arms or crossing their legs, it may mean they're not interested in the conversation and are simply waiting for you to finish.
