During recent talks with Saudi Arabian officials, the White House received more detailed information regarding the terms of an energy-related ceasefire and possible steps to stabilize the situation in the Black Sea, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.
“Some of the conditions that are being proposed relate to sanctions imposed by the European Union,” Rubio said.
According to him, after the return of the American delegations from Riyadh, a meeting will be held at which proposals and Russia’s position will be discussed.
For his part, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted that “nothing is off the table” when talking about the possibility of easing sanctions in exchange for a ceasefire agreement. He also stressed that the US could consider Russia's return to the SWIFT international banking system in the context of resolving the conflict. However, Bessent added that Donald Trump is ready to tighten sanctions against Russia if it brings political advantage.
“President Trump will not hesitate to increase sanctions if it gives him an advantage in negotiations,” Bessent told Fox News, noting that the decision on easing sanctions will depend on what the Russian side does next.
