Since mid-March, Ukraine has seen a sharp rise in prices for chicken eggs. Over the past few weeks, the cost of a dozen in supermarkets has increased by an average of 7 hryvnia. This trend is associated not only with seasonal changes, but also with preparations for Easter, which in 2025 falls on April 20.
This was reported by URA-Inform, citing AgroReview .
As experts note, the main growth factor is the increased demand for eggs ahead of the holidays. However, the reasons are much deeper. Deputy Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council Denis Marchuk explained that prices are seriously affected by the rise in the cost of poultry feed, as well as high costs of heating poultry houses in winter. According to him, another price jump can be expected in the coming weeks.
“Before Easter, demand traditionally increases, and we will most likely see a price increase of another 10%. Especially considering that there is no new grain harvest on the market yet, and feed is still expensive,” Marchuk noted.
However, after the holiday, the situation may change. With warming, more eggs from private farms will start to enter the market, which, according to forecasts, can lower prices by 20-30%. The final dynamics will depend on weather conditions and the rate at which the market is saturated with products.
Today, packaged eggs of the Yasensvit brand cost an average of UAH 72.83 per dozen, which is UAH 6.21 higher than in February. The price range among large retail chains fluctuates between UAH 69 and UAH 78:
- Auchan — 69.40 UAH
- Novus — 70.89 UAH
- Megamarket — 78.20 UAH
Thus, Ukrainians should prepare for the traditional spring price hike, but there is hope that eggs will become more affordable again in May.
Earlier we reported that Ukrainians can expect transparent transfers : the NBU will instruct banks to disclose recipient data.
