Lithuania plans to recall Valdemaras Sarapinas from the post of ambassador to Ukraine.

This information was reported by LRT, reports URA-Inform.

It became known that the diplomat will head the embassy in Poland, where the Lithuanians did not have their own diplomatic representative for some time.

Journalists learned that the Lithuanian diplomat, according to the government project, will be recalled from the post of ambassador to Ukraine on June 17 this of the year. Valdemaras Sarapinas was appointed to this position in 2020.

Since the beginning of September last year, Lithuania has been left without an ambassador to Poland, when Eduardas Borisovas was recalled after the end of his term. Currently, the Lithuanian post in Warsaw is headed by Chargé d'Affaires Audron Markevičen.

At the end of last year, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry announced that the President's Office was delaying the appointment of a new Lithuanian ambassador to Poland. The lengthy search for an ambassadorial candidate in Warsaw was criticized by Lithuanian politicians.

Speaker of the Seimas Victoria Chmilyte-Nielsen said that «at a time when there is a war in Ukraine, when changes have taken place in Poland, when elections have taken place, it is difficult to justify the absence of the ambassador». She added that “we are all suffering, but it is very important to continue to maintain such close ties with Poland so that cooperation is effective at all levels.”

However, now all differences seem to be behind us, therefore, Lithuania will have a full-fledged diplomatic representative in Warsaw, which is quite logical, given the generally friendly relations between the countries.

Recall that it was previously reported that Reznikov found a new job: what position did he get.
