South Africa on Friday asked the International Court of Justice to order that Israel violated its obligations under the Genocide Convention during its operations in the Gaza Strip.
Source: “The Guardian” with reference to a message on the social network X by the speaker of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lior Hayat
Details: South Africa states that Israel, especially since October 7, 2023, has failed to prevent genocide and public incitement to genocide. The country asked the court to take measures obliging Israel to stop its military campaign in the Gaza Strip.
Israel's Foreign Ministry said South Africa's claim has no factual or legal basis and is a disparaging use of the Court.
Verbatim from the ministry's statement: “Israel has made it clear that the people of the Gaza Strip are not the enemy and is making every effort to limit harm to those not involved and allow humanitarian aid to reach the Gaza Strip. We call on the International Court of Justice and the international community to reject South Africa completely “.
Israel rejects with disgust the blood libel spread by South Africa in its application to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
South Africa's claim lacks both a factual and a legal basis, and constitutes a despicable and contemptuous exploitation of the Court.
